War Footing comes out on Friday. Come celebrate?
In Brooklyn (Friday) or Princeton (Saturday) or in the privacy of your own head (any day)
My dearest recipients,
It is funny to say a thing like “my album comes out on Friday” in passing in, say, a classroom full of college students. They look at each other and maybe think “wow, my professor has an album coming out! He must be kind of a big deal.” In actuality, I am going to press a button on Bandcamp and double-check that it appears in the digital places and that will be that.
It is also funny to realize that I think of it this way sometimes but very other ways other times. Not a big deal/kind of a big deal! These alternate perspectives vie for attention like so many other sets of ways of looking. As in those other cases, I wonder less about which vision to choose, and more about situating the competing visions in a larger field that would reveal them to be small and limited and maybe even just beside the whole point. Which begs the “what is the point?” question, which I will now definitely answer for all people for all time:
It is kind of a big deal to try to make something and then share and celebrate what got made. I have no illusions about it going viral or changing my day-to-day life more than already committing to this kind of work and life has already changed it. Also I like my day-to-day life, quite a lot. So, I just want to have a party because there will be nine more songs in the world on September 16 than there were on September 15. Which is totally not true because I released three of them over the summer, so we’re just celebrating six, so please dampen your enthusiasm by 33.33333etc%, a.k.a 1/3.
On Friday I am playing at Pete’s Candy Store in Brooklyn. Come at 9 to hear Damsel, then I am on at 10, with the really quite good drummer Jason Treuting. I will have a lot of download cards for War Footing, the album, hot off the presses, and I will give you one if you would like one. Then on Saturday, the same at Small World in Princeton. But this time I play at 530, followed by Damsel. I realize this is confusing but we’re going to get through it.

Also, if you are in neither Brooklyn nor Princeton but are interested in the album, you can pre-order, here:
Three tracks now, the other six upon Friday release. Please see above for more specific mathematical calculations and reflections.
Finally, if you prefer to steal your music or get it for a monthly fee, War Footing should magically appear in its entirety on AppleMusic, Spotify, YouTube, all the places, on Friday.
All summer I wrote copy and sent emails and tried to get some “traction” or whatever for this record. It turns out, that is like a whole job in itself, and one from which I have resigned. So instead we will have a little party, between us, friends, to just say hello, I exist, you exist, I made a thing, you might like it, thanks for being here. Or: I saw this in the world, or saw the world this way. Do you ever think about it that way? I would like to know. By sharing I am asking.
High fives all around,
And the Brooklyn one is going to be like 2005 and feels already like a family reunion based on those of you who are coming, thank you, thank you,
Andrea
